We’ve always loved lighting candles and the warmth, comfort, and ambiance they bring to a home. It never really mattered what kind they were—as long as they smelled amazing, we were happy to light them.
Over the years, we’d occasionally hear people mention that some candles could contain ingredients that weren’t the best for indoor air quality or the environment, but we never gave it much thought.
That changed when our dad was diagnosed with cancer.
As we searched for ways to support his health and overall well-being, we found ourselves researching everything we could about the products we use every day and the ingredients we bring into our home. During that journey, we learned more about traditional candles made with paraffin wax and synthetic fragrances, and we realized they weren’t something we felt comfortable continuing to burn in our own home.
We knew there had to be a better option.
As we researched natural candle-making, beeswax stood out as the best choice for us. We loved that it’s a natural, renewable wax without the need for paraffin or unnecessary synthetic additives. At the same time, our research introduced us to essential oils and the role they have played in wellness practices for centuries. That inspired us to scent our candles using essential oils instead of synthetic fragrances.
Along the way, we discovered that other companies were creating candles with similar values, but we wanted to build something that reflected our own story and the standards we wanted for our family.
We’re not saying that candles are the cause of cancer, nor are we suggesting that an all-natural candle can heal it. What our family’s journey did teach us was to be more intentional about the products we use and the environment we create in our home. Once we understood more about the ingredients commonly found in many candles, we knew we couldn’t continue burning them ourselves—and we certainly couldn’t sell products we wouldn’t feel good about using in our own home.
That’s why we created BlakeMarie.
Every candle we make is hand-poured with 100% pure beeswax and scented only with essential oils. Our hope is to offer a cleaner, more natural candle that allows others to enjoy the same cozy ambiance we have always loved—while feeling confident about what they’re bringing into their homes.
This is more than a candle company. It’s our family’s story, our values, and our commitment to creating products we’d be proud to share with the people we love.
